Sworn Translation Requirements in Brazil
In Brazil, legal, administrative, and other official documents coming into the country often require a "sworn translation" (tradução juramentada). A sworn translation holds legal validity and can also be carried out by a professional public translator, known as a "tradutor juramentado." These translators have passed a public examination and are authorized by the Commercial Trade Board (Junta Comercial) of their respective Brazilian states.
- Official Documents: official documents that are not in Portuguese and are intended for use in Brazil need to be translated by a public sworn translator in Brazil. This includes documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, educational certificates, passports, and legal documents among others.
- Sworn Translations: Brazil recognizes a special category of Brazilian translators known as "tradutores públicos" or "tradutores juramentados" (public sworn translators). These are translators who have passed a public examination and are then authorized by the Brazilian government to provide translation services for foreign documents. Only translations performed by a public sworn translator will be considered legally valid in Brazil.
- Notarization: After translation, the document might also need to be notarized, depending on its intended use. The notarization process essentially verifies the authenticity of the document.
If your document was issued in Brazil (you are a Brazilian citizen) and you want to use it in a foreign country that does not approve of Portuguese documents, you need to find out if the country has specific sworn translation requirements and follow them. Most countries have a system of certification for their translators.
Translayte is a translation agency with proven experience providing certified translations to our customers globally. You can receive your accurate translations from us on the same day, or within 24 hours, with 100% guaranteed acceptance by the Brazilian authorities.
Legalising Documents for use in Brazil
Additionally, you may need to legalize your document before it can be translated. If a foreign document will be used in Brazil, it may need to be legalized in its country of origin before it can be translated and used in Brazil. As of August 2016, Brazil is a signatory to the Apostille Convention, which simplifies the legalization process for all the countries that are also part of the convention.
Our sworn translators are experienced and dedicated professionals who ensure that your document is translated accurately and completely, guaranteeing its legal validity in Brazil. We understand the importance of precision and confidentiality, and our sworn translation services are tailored to meet the specific needs of individuals and businesses.
