Hindi to English Translation Services
Hindi's story is a fascinating journey that winds through centuries of cultural exchange and political shifts. It all begins with Sanskrit, the ancient language of India. Over time, around 7th-century AD, Sanskrit morphed into Prakrit languages, and one particular Prakrit called Shauraseni Apabhramsha laid the foundation for what would become Hindi.
This early form of Hindi, spoken around Delhi, was known by various names like Hindavi or Hindustani. During the Delhi Sultanate (8th-14th centuries AD), things got interesting. Interaction with Persian and Turkish rulers enriched the language with a vocabulary boost. Words related to administration, like "faujdari" (criminal case) and "vazir" (minister), found their way into Hindi.
While this period saw the blossoming of literature in this early Hindi, another path emerged. The mingling of Sanskrit and Prakrit with Persian and Arabic gave rise to another language, Urdu. Essentially, Hindi and Urdu shared the same roots but diverged in their written script and vocabulary influences. Urdu borrowed more heavily from Arabic and Persian, using the Perso-Arabic script.
Over the centuries, Hindi continued to evolve. Standard Hindi, as we know it today, is based on the Delhi dialect and gained prominence during the British Raj. The British needed a common language for administration, and Hindustani fit the bill. However, they favoured the Urdu version written in the Perso-Arabic script.
Independent India chose Hindi written in the Devanagari script as its official language in 1950. This marked a new chapter for Hindi, and it continues to thrive as a language of literature, cinema, and everyday life for millions of people. The rich tapestry of Hindi's history reflects the multicultural heritage of India, making it a language as vibrant as the country itself.
At Translayte, we understand the importance of preserving the integrity and nuances of languages; that’s why we have a team of expert certified Hindi translators dedicated to providing high-quality Hindi translations, ensuring your documents are accurately and authentically translated.
